Info from the publisher

Marcus Sedgwick, Revolver

Orion. ISBN: 9781842551868

1910. A cabin north of the Arctic Circle. Fifteen-year-old Sig Andersson is alone. Alone, except for the corpse of his father, who died earlier that day after falling through a weak spot on the ice-covered lake. His sister, Anna, and step-mother, Nadya, have gone to the local town for help. Then comes a knock at the door. It's a man, the flash of a revolver's butt at his hip, and a mean glare in his eyes. Sig has never seen him before but Wolff claims to have unfinished business with his father. As Sig gradually learns the awful truth about Wolff's connection to his father, Sig finds his thoughts drawn to a certain box hidden on a shelf in the storeroom, in which lies his father's prized possession - a revolver. When Anna returns alone, and Wolff begins to close in, Sigs choice is pulled into sharp focus. Should he use the gun, or not?

A really good read although sometimes seemed quite disjointed. Would recommend it.

Miss, Belfast Boys Model School  8 out of 10

I like this book because there was lots of action and drama. My favourite character is the 15 year old boy Sig because he is the main character and had to make decisions that could have meant life or death.

Carter, Belfast Boys Model School  8 out of 10

It was a good book but really confusing

Katie, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen  7 out of 10

It was quite good but I found it confusing when it went back and forward in time

Ceara, Other School  8 out of 10

The book was really interesting and hearthrobing at times, it had lots of detail as to where they were and what they were doing, it was quite scary and mysterious. I am very surprised that Sig's father had the gold all along, it was an astonishing book.

Ellen, Holy Cross College, Strabane  8 out of 10

I thought that Revolver was very good but a little bit confusing because there were different times being talked about. The detail of the desciptions was very good and I would recommend this book to anyone who likes thillers.

Hollie, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  8 out of 10

The storyline in REVOLVER is very different from other books. I find that in one chapter it's set at the present moment and then in the next chapter I find that it's set in the past. I love the way the chapters were laid out, it was really great. I also loved the way the REVOLVER built up from part to part in each chapter. At the end the REVOLVER was complete, I thought that was really smart. Overall I would recommend this book. It's thrilling, scary, adventurous and very smart!

Aoife, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  8 out of 10

I think this is a very good book but was a little confusing, but when you get into it it is a very good book

simon, Bangor Grammar School  7 out of 10

I'm sure this is a excellent book, but I found it hard to get into. Although it has a great storyline, personally, I didn't enjoy reading this book as much as some of the others. I found this book difficult to understand and I lost concentration easily.

Kelsa, Lisneal College, L'Derry  6 out of 10

I found this book very hard to understand. I couldn't really get into it,I think a boy would like it more.I didn't like the book very much.

Colleen, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen  4 out of 10

I thought this book was quite good actually I read the first few lines and thought 'Oh Boy' another one of those books about killing and guns. But when I started to read I got really into. The only problem I started it and then it ended, in other words it was far too short I was just getting into it and then I had finished it. But maybe that's because I was reading it 24/7! Overall a brilliant book!

Grace, Sullivan Upper School  9 out of 10

This was a great book with a suspense but with little humour and I like my humour.

Zakk , Royal Belfast Academical Institution  9 out of 10

I thought this book was very interesting and enjoyable to read. It was easy to understand what was happening. I like the way it is written like a true story and has a lot of action, which makes you feel very tempted when reading it. It also makes you think ''Oh, what is going to happen next?'' when you read it. As well it has short chapters which put more action and movement in the story. A really good read

leanne, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen  8 out of 10

I would definately recommend this book, especially for older children as the themes explored are complex and the plot is quite involved. I thought the structure of moving between time periods with emotive quotes between sections added to the over all interest of the book.

Olivia, Aquinas  8 out of 10

Having read the blurb, I really did not expect to enjoy this book. However I have to say that it had me enthralled from start to finish. It is indeed rare to find a book where you simply cannot predict what is going to happen. I will certainly be recommending "Revolver"

Miss McAdoo, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

An amazing book.

Oisin, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen  9 out of 10

This book I would say it is my least favourite out of the other books I have read. It took me a long time to get into the book and when I did I found it quite intertresting. I would pass this book onto my male friends because I think they would like it more than I did!

Katie, St Joseph's College Coalisland  5 out of 10

I liked this book but felt it jumped around the time lines too much. The story itself was quite good but my enjoyment was spoilt because the flow of the story was disjointed.

Mrs Beattie, St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan  7 out of 10

I found this book quite hard to read and understand at points. I would not normally read a book with this sort of plot line but i think that other people will enjoy it!

Aileen , Hunter House  6 out of 10

This book was probably one of my least favourite so far. I thought it took a long time to get into it even though it was easy to understand and had some rather interesting use of words and techniques it just didn't really appeal to me. I thought that it would be better suited to a more older reader rather than teenagers. It was a rather good read and I would reccomend it to the older male readers.

Megan, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  5 out of 10

Revolver was by far the best book I have read. I only wish I had more of Marcus Sedgwick's books. I though it was a very heart pounding book you have to read on and on and on in a good way. I realy liked it and it is in my top 3 I enjoyed hope you will read it too.

Emmett, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen  10 out of 10

I really liked this book, it was well written and thought provoking. It does tend to move along at a slow pace despite being an adventure story. I would recommend it to boys and girls.

Mrs McConnell, St Louise's, Belfast  8 out of 10

I thought this book was very interesting and enjoyable to read. It was easy to understand what was happening. I like the way it is written like a true story and has a lot of action, which makes you feel very tempted when reading it. It also makes you think ''Oh, what is going to happen next?'' when you read it. As well it has short chapters which put more action and movement in the story.

Karolina, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

I liked this book because it was really deep but I like that in books. It's an interesting story with descriptive words in it, and a great story line.

Emer, Holy Cross College, Strabane  7 out of 10

A great book and a brillant plot line with an unexcepted ending I could not put this book down it's a very good book for girls and boys I would definately read it again!!!!!

Hannah , Other School  9 out of 10

I thought that this was a great book. An excellent plot and very well constructed, moving back and forward through the years to explain the story. Unexpected twist at the very end & I felt cold just reading it!

Mr McDonald, Victoria College, Belfast  10 out of 10

It was a good book because of the boy's survival. Pretty good ending. Perfect for first years

George, Bangor Grammar School  8 out of 10

I felt that this book was very slow, with no real action happening unil the end of the book. This left a sense that the book is unfinished and that there should be more to the story. However, it did build tenson very well and had me wondering what would happen and if there was any gold. I feel the book could have been structured in a less complicated way, although the chapters alternating between past and present in the story gave a sense of just how important his father's actions in the gold business were and how his decision to steal was going to affect Sig's life.

Anna, Victoria College, Belfast  5 out of 10

The cold was always imminent in this story and even though the writer described the bright snow and the cold of the Arctic weather I got the feeling that everything round Sig was cold and very dark. I anticipated that he would use the revolver, but when he did he had everything worked out as his father had told him. It was a shock to discover that his father also had a dark side.

Mrs Karen , Holy Cross College, Strabane  8 out of 10

This book was difficult to understand as the plot is all over the place. However it was a good thriller and very interesting so you always want to know what will happen next. It is made like a diary which makes it look more personal. It was great!

Brendan, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

This book is a very hard book to understand, but when i got into it it was a very thrilling and exciting book . I would say that this book is up there with my favourite/ top books :)

Colleen, St Joseph's College Coalisland  8 out of 10

This book has not got a good start as it can be quite hard to understand it and you can very easily get lost during the start of it. When I came to nearer the end it began to get very intresting and I enjoyed the end very much so.

Ryan, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  6 out of 10

Sa Leabhar Seo Faigheann Daidí Sig Bás. Fuair Sé Bás Inné Ag Titim Isteach San Uisce. Bhain Mé Slut As Leimh An Leabhar Ach Ní Leabhar A Leimh Mé Do Gnath. Is É Sig An Carrchtar Is Fearr Liom. Nior Maith Liom An Carrachtar Wolff. Is É An Páirt Is Fearr Liom Nuair A Tugadh Seans Ag Sig Wolff A Maradh Ach Nior Maraigh Sé É.

Saorla , Colaiste Feirste  10 out of 10

As this book is shortlisted to win a children's book award I believed it would be in some way interesting, but in fact it was one of the worst books I have read and believe some will struggle to get to the end. The author had a brilliant story set up with the revolver, a mysterious stranger and a frozen wasteland but let it get lost in the rest of the story. The only reason I managed to get to the end was because of the interesting saying on the back of the book and I was determined to find what relevance it had in the book. The book was mundane and tedious to progress through and I was disappointed by the book and would not recommend it.

Chris, St Paul's Bessbrook  5 out of 10

This book is an inspiring story that got my full attension every chapter. A brilliant read for my age.

Fionntan, St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan  9 out of 10

I thought it was a brilliant book I couldnt put it down. It took me a couple of days to read this book, I loved the way the author used very expressive words to describe each character. I was looking forward to the end as it was very exciting!

Rachel, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen  8 out of 10

Great book, had me stuck to it to the very end! I read most of it in an hour it had me so glued. Ending was brillant, and the way it changed from the two people's accounts was very good. The author manages to keep us clued in on whats happening without giving too much away.

David, Royal Belfast Academical Institution  8 out of 10

I think this book deserves 7/10 because it's interesting, enjoyable and there was a twist in the story. However, I think the ending could have been stronger.

jamie, St Patrick's High School, Keady  7 out of 10

I thought the book was very good at the start but gradually got a bit boring as it wasn't very exciting or it didn't make you want to keep reading on.

Treise, St Genevieve's  6 out of 10

I think revolver has a good twist to it but i found it a bit boring im not saying it isnt a good book but i didnt enjoy it.It hadnt any real excitment to it.

Cliodhna, St Louise's, Belfast  3 out of 10

A very good book. I would recommend this book to secondary students. It was thrilling and chilling. The end was a real twist, loved it to the very end

George, Bangor Grammar School  9 out of 10

I loved this book it was an amazing book. I couldn't wait to see how it ended! The book shows how sig could have become a killer and disrespected his mother's wishes but instead he doesn't. I would recommend it to all thriller fans!

Rebecca, Belfast Royal Academy  10 out of 10

An amazing book by all standards. Very mysterious and a real page-turner. The start is brilliant and so is the end. A book to be recomended to anyone!

Joshua , St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan  8 out of 10

My favourite character is Sig because he is brave and daring. My favourite part is when sig is given the oppertunity to kill Wolff but he dosent do it and says i respect my mother and dosent kill him. i also liked the way every time it changed to a differnet scene it showed a digram which turns out to be a gun.

Charlie, Royal Belfast Academical Institution  10 out of 10

Revolver is a thrillling and exciting story. It the type of book that you just cant stop reading, when you reading one chapter and it leaves you hanging you flip the page as fast as you can. I would probably reccomend this book to 11+ as the is a some stuff that younger people wont understsand
