As i said it was a boring book so i am happy it did not win:)

jordan, Bangor Grammar School  1 out of 10

I think Diary Of the Wimpy Kid was quite good but not good enough to on the NI Book Awards. But it is funny.

Arvin, Bangor Grammar School  4 out of 10

Well, I have to admit I was rather disappointed in this book. I felt everyone was saying that it was better than it actually was. I guess some parts were funny and whatever age you are, you always find a part of yourself that relates to the characters whether it is Greg or Frank, Gregs father. I think that this book was well written and Jeff Kinney is an amazing childrens author. The situations were very realistic. I would probably reccomend this book to younger children around the ages of 9,10 or11 but sadly this book wasn't one of my favourites and sadly I will not be reading the rest. Overall, a great author and children's book but certianlly not my cup of tea.

Megan, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  7 out of 10

Seán, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

This book was pretty funny. I know there wasn't that much of a plot like Grace said, but I thought that made it funnier. Greg is my long lost brother, his parents are exactly like mine. I love how the book ends, with Greg's dad changing his mind about military camp. This book was very enjoyable. Great for a boring day(:

Karli, Sullivan Upper School  10 out of 10

This is the first Wimpy Kid book I have read (the last straw) and I loved it. It was so good that I got the "Dog days" one and I am reading it at the minute and it seems really good. These are probably the best series of books I have read because it was random and funny =).

Adam, Belfast Royal Academy  10 out of 10

This is the first "Wimpy Kid" book I have read and to be honest its a bit wierd and random. But it was very entertaining and short but sweet and I think I will continue to read the "Wimpy Kid" diarys. I would recommed this book to anyone who is into either funny books or needs a laugh.

Sammy, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  9 out of 10

Katie, St Joseph's College Coalisland  10 out of 10

I thought this book was acctually good. It wasn't brilliant but it was good enough to read. I had finished it within a week, but I don't think I would read again as it is a bit childish and it describes a typical boy! I forward it on to a friend because it does have it's good points.

When my school held a Drama workshop based on the Northern Ireland book award, I was chosen to play Greg (the main character) for an improvising play. Ever since that I really wanted to read "A Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The last Straw" and I did. I love this book, it's really funny, and I couldn't put it down. I've told all my friends about it and I really think the book is fantastic!!

Fiona, St Patrick's High School, Keady  10 out of 10

I loved this book, I thought the story was great and funny and I would recommend it to anyone!!!

Tina, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

Although this wasn't a novel I still thought it was a very good book. As a parent I could empathise with the parents in the book and listening to the pupils in school, they can certainly empathise with Greg. All of the situations were plausible but hilarious. There were some laugh out loud moments.

Mrs Beattie, St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan  8 out of 10

I found this book to be a little boring for the first few pages, but it got better and I was screaming with laughter it was that funny. It was incrediably funny and humourous. I would reccomend it to anyone who is in for a laugh!!!

Evangeline, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  9 out of 10

I really enjoyed reading this book. It filled me with laughter all of the time. It was a good book as it had great characters in it like Greg who comes up with funny ideas. Rodrick is the mean brother, mum is the dopy one and the father just gives up too easily. The pictures made the diary funny and easily understood. This book is a book about everyday situations and it shows how Greg copes with these embarssing, annoying situations. This book is definitely an enjoyable one to read

Aine, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

I found this book really good! It was very funny at some points of the book and I didn't get bored. I was really addicted to it and I got really annoyed when I had finished it because I didn't want the story to end!! I would recommend this book to a lot of people because I think they would really enjoy it as much as I did. Overall I really enjoyed it (you have probably guessed that already!)

Catherine, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

This is a fun book. I felt that it would suit someone younger than me. My eight year sister found it very funny.

This book is very funny but it is a bit babyish. I would give it about 8 out of 10.

The last straw is babyish, pointless, stupid and just wrong for kids at our age to be reading it.

Odhran, St Joseph's College Coalisland  10 out of 10

I think that this book was very funny and the characters were very interesting people. It is more for younger children maybe in primary school. I enjoyed reading this book and it does'nt take that long to read. I have never read one of these books before but I would recommened them and read the rest of them. It is a very intertaining book and makes you want to keep reading!

Hannah, St Paul's Bessbrook  9 out of 10

'The Diary of a Wimpy Kid' is one of the funniest books I've ever read. The firs time I read it I thought the author had based Greg on me! I personally don't read many children's books, as I would much prefer 'Murder on the Orient Express' to 'Skulduggery pleasant', but when my brother bought this book, I just couldn't resist a peek. From then on I couldn't put it down. I was laughing my head off, as if I was watching an episode of Blackadder. I sincerely reccomend this book to anyone who needs a laugh!

Ted, Royal Belfast Academical Institution  9 out of 10

I think this book is very funny and I think it was a good idea to write it as diary but I think it could of been more interesting

holly, St Louise's, Belfast  6 out of 10

I thought this book was amazing, I have already read the first so I knew a bit about the series already. I thought that this book was much funnier and more fast paced than most of the other funny books I have read, I loved the characters and the storyline aswell. IT WAS JUST SO FUNNY!!

Anna, Sullivan Upper School  10 out of 10

i love the wimpy kid series its AMAZINGLY FUNNY :) ... but this one kind of let it down a bit. ps i was at the awards WOOT!

joel, Bangor Grammar School  7 out of 10

This book is really good because its really funny and you don't really know what to expect of Greg and what's going to happen to him next. What I laughed the most about was when he got into really embarssing moments. This is a really good book and not just for advanced readers its can be read by all ages.

Clare, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

I think this book was brilliant. It is very funny and easy to get into. There are great characters and lots of descriptive words in it, which helped me to vividly imagine the range of settings and characters. I especailly like Greg because the writer presents him as a really funny and interesting guy. The pictures are really helpful in explaining the main points of the story. This book I think is sutible from 7+. This was the best and funniest book I have read in my life.

Aaron, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

I love this book - It is so funny that I was laughing for ages. I think this a great book and couldn't put it down until had finished it. I would have liked it to be a little bit longer.

Shannon, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  8 out of 10

The diary of a wimpy kid is a great book. It's amusing and I couldn't put the book down until I had finished it. It is a little boring in places however.

Matthew, Royal Belfast Academical Institution  9 out of 10

I thought the book was good although it really didn't take much to read and didn't really have a story line. I thought it was quirky and the pictures were amusing. Though I did enjoy reading it, it sort of reminded me of a comic. I would say it would probably suit ages 8-11 best and would only recomned it if you were looking for a light easy read.

Oonagh, St Genevieve's  6 out of 10

This book is the most boring book I have ever read. It does not have a proper story to it and it seems like a babys book. I was disappointed and confused why it got nominated for the awards!

shane, St Paul's Bessbrook  1 out of 10

The Diary of a wimpy kid The last straw is one of the best books i have ever read. I think it is a book for an age group of 5-15 year olds as it is an easy book to read and there are lots of illustrations to help.

Eoin, Royal Belfast Academical Institution  10 out of 10

The Diary Of A Wimpy kid The Last Straw is one of the funniest books i have ever read because in the book there is a lot of twists and turns which makes it really funny. I would recomend it to anybody I know even ones who don't like reading because i am sure they will have has much fun reading it as i had.

jack, Royal Belfast Academical Institution  10 out of 10

Tá an leabhar seo maith, ach níl sé comh granmhar mar atá gach duine ag caint faoi.Tá an leabhar seo granmhar ag cupla piosaí agus chuig liom gach rud a feicail i shuile Greg.

This book is good, but it isn't as funny as everyone says. The book is funny at some points and I can see everything in Greg's eyes.

Gavin, Colaiste Feirste  8 out of 10

I didn't like this book very much because it was really a book for a ten year old and I didn't think it was at all funny.

Brendan, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

This book is pure genius. I loved it from start to finish. I picked this book up in a shop and I was immediately hooked because of the style of writing and how normal yet hilarious the situations that Greg described were, such as arguments with your brothers and being forced to play soccer in Phys. Ed. Congratulations to the writer for producing such a suberp book.

Jason, St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan  9 out of 10

This book was quite good, and as you go on through the book it gets better and funnier . The cover makes it look boyish but it's not really, it has a good story line to it and some funny illustrations - great!!

Hayley, Lisneal College, L'Derry  9 out of 10

10 out of 10 isn't enough to show how great this book is and the side splittingly funny events that go on.

Matthew, Royal Belfast Academical Institution  10 out of 10

I thought this book was fantastic. It is one of the best books that I have read. There was a good story line and I loved all the pictures. It had funny parts and I can't wait to see the rest of the series.

i like this book but is hasn't got much of a plot but it was still good

Cónall, Colaiste Feirste  7 out of 10

this boook is side splittingly funny and you will never read anything better than the hillarious antics of this weird wimpy kid as he tries to survive the world of high school.

Matthew, Royal Belfast Academical Institution  10 out of 10

A funny and very well written book, one of which I would love to read again. Jeff Kinney is an excellent author and one who will make you laugh out loud. While reading I wished the book would never end. A brilliant book for all the family and I sincerely hope there are more to come. I would strongly recomend this book to anyone who can read.

Joshua , St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan  10 out of 10

The book was realy humorous and well written. You would actually think it was someones dairy!

Conill, St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan  10 out of 10

I think this book was full of humour. The main character, Greg, a 13 year-old boy, has so many adventures in one year in a middle school in America. My favourite character was Fregly, a crazy boy. I love the part where he pretends to be a dog. If laughing out loud is what you are after, then this is the book for you. This book is one of the best reads in the last year.

Charlie, Royal Belfast Academical Institution  8 out of 10

This book was really funny! I really enjoyed this book and it is perfect for some light reading. This book is original and the covers are really nice.quite mad!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There certainly were a few "laugh out loud moments" and I would reccommend it to anyone. I couldnt believe some of the predicaments the main character found himself in! Hilarious!

Jackie, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  9 out of 10

Hilarious read! Very worth while. If you need a laugh this is the book for you!

Jamie , Royal Belfast Academical Institution  10 out of 10

I thought that this book was extremely funny and a very good book for both boys and girls. It was a very creative book and it has a worthy place on the short list.A must read if you enjoy comedy and wimpy kids.

Callum, Bangor Grammar School  10 out of 10

The Last Straw is a very funny and entertaining book. It is a book that most of us can relate to - being bullied and being told you needed to toughen up. I would recommend this book to anyone.
