This book was absolutely fantastic!!! It was really easy to get into and was so mysterious and exciting the whole way through. It was so hard to but down and I think it is a real contender for this award! The best part are the last few chapters as everything comes together and the evil of Lady Mandible is revealed! if you haven't already, you have to READ THIS BOOK!!! It's amazing!
— Chloe , Sullivan Upper School
My class in school has done the play on this.

— Jordan_May, Royal Belfast Academical Institution
OMG this book was class I loved it it was much better than the graveyard book
— Katie, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen
i thought this book was fantastic.
i really, really enjoyed it and i thought the riddles in between bits was a good idea, although some of the riddles were really hard to figure out it left you pondering them and the book.
i would pass this book onto a friend anyday as it was very mysterious and as you read on you start to put all the pieces together like a jigsaw.
I would give this book 9/10 because of some of the riddles are a bit hard to figure out and although i like a challenge some were really tough to figure out. I good book over all though. :)
— niamh, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen
This book was great! Although I have read better books, it still was exciting
— Ellen, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
I thought this book was well thought through, it was dark, strong and well-made.
It was about revenge and murder, which was a great plot. My friend read it as well, and he said it was a fantastic book. Overall, it is a great book.
Well worth the read.
— Eoghan, Holy Cross College, Strabane
This book is one of the best I've ever read. It's by far the best one in the series, and even though I've read it countless times, the twists in it still suprise me! If I could, I would give it 100 out of 10!
— Eimear, Aquinas
This book was written well although I found it a wee bit hard to understand. I think if the text was simpler it would have made more sense and I didn't enjoy reading it as I didn't understand certain parts.
— Cahir, St Joseph's College Coalisland
A great book though I have read better I think the twists in the story were good though and I really enjoyed reading it.
— Grace, Sullivan Upper School
This book is very well written and would encourage me to read more F.E.Higgins Books. This was probably my favourite book so far and I would recommened it this to everyone. I enjoyed trying to solve the riddles. :-)
— Sammy, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
This book was just alright. I found it slightly boring as I could tell what was going to happen next and I didnt feel that the author created much suspense. I would recommend it to anyone over the age of about 10.
— Maeve, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
A very well written book. Kept me interested throughout the whole book. It's a real page turner and I absolutely enjoyed reading it. I would recomend this book to everyone who likes to be scared.
— Sebastian, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
I thought this book was okay. It would not be my favourite book but I would read other F.E Higgins books.
— Bex, Sullivan Upper School
I quite enjoyed it - well written, a good story with interesting riddles and scientific information throughout to keep me interested. I felt that the plot was a bit thin in places however - it almost felt as though several chapters had been cut out.
— Mr McDonald, Victoria College, Belfast
This book was not very enjoyable, it was hard to get into. I had to force myself to read it to the end.
— Sean, St Patrick's High School, Keady
I thought this book was very interesting because it is based on a true story. In the book there are many letters and riddles which make you think of an answer, but if you couldn't get it, it is explained at the back. It also tells you about Lepidopery which is about collecting or studying butterflies and moths which is very interesting too and it tells you how it is done. The books also mentions a lot of Latin names of different species of butterflies and moths and translates these terms to English. A fun and interesting book to read and I would recommend it to everyone because it is just too great!!!
— Karolina, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
This was not a book I enjoyed and had to force myself to continue reading. I found it hard to relate to any of the characters. However, despite this I did get sucked into the story. I think this is a story boys would probably enjoy more than girls.
— Mrs McConnell, St Louise's, Belfast
I thought this book was very hard to get into but once you know what you are reading you really feel like you are in the book watching the characters come to life. I would really recommend it
— Aimee , Hunter House
I think the book was brilliant. It was ok at the start but it got better as it I read on. I would recommend reading the first two books before this one.
— Rian, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen
It was not much of a horror book. More of a Gothic book. The begining was a bit confusing but it was enjoyable
— George, Bangor Grammar School
This book is very enjoyable. I loved the story and the plot of the divided cities. If you're a fan of gothic and horror tales I would strongly recommend this book to you!
— Connel, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
This book was OK. At the start it was a bit boring but was getting better towards the end.
— Aoife, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
This book is brilliant and needless to say this is one of higgins best books
— jordan, Bangor Grammar School
This was a really good book, not one of my favourites but I definitely enjoyed it!
— Fiona, St Patrick's High School, Keady
I didn't really like this book because it was a bit hard to follow and some of the words in the book were difficult to understand. Although I quite liked the way they described the characters. Over all I would recommend this book to teenagers and adults!
— Beth, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
Funny & reasonably good plot.
— Dearbhail , Victoria College, Belfast
I really liked the book because when I was intending to put the book down, something interesting began to happen. The story just got better, but what I didn't like was that it left some questions unanswered at the end. maybe there will be a follow up book.
— Nicole, Holy Cross College, Strabane
I read a lot of horror books when I was younger and this wasn't scary at all. It was a good book to get into and I enjoyed it a lot. I thought the riddles were a fun wee twist and I'd read it again. I thought the ending was quite good.
— Kerri, St Paul's Bessbrook
I quite liked the book, very good detail, it's quite hard to understand though it's very nerve racking as well. I felt sorry for Hector as all the things he had to for his father. The riddles in the book are very inpressive. There are lots of alliterations in the book. I would recommend it to 8-12 year olds.
— Ellen, Holy Cross College, Strabane
I really disliked this particular book, I found it extremly hard to get into. Also I found it very boring and felt as if I had missed a book or series before I started this one.
— Ryan, St Patrick's High School, Keady
I thought this book was really good and I think that F.E.Higgons is a great author and I would love to read more of his books.
— Jordan, Bangor Grammar School
This is a very god book as it is easily accessable and has a gripping story line and interesting characters. The ending was a bit predictable although the method through which the main character sought revenge was unexpected, interesting and creative.
— Brían, St Paul's Bessbrook
I liked the book the eyeball collector because it was scary but I also thought the book is better for a boy.
— Rachel , St Louise's, Belfast
I didn't like this book because I found it very hard to get into and understand.
— Brian, St Joseph's College Coalisland
I didn't like this book because I sort of got lost in the middle of it and it was difficult for me - it could have been easier to read. But I did like the riddle in the book.
— Aoife, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
The book was very interesting. The vocabulary was sometimes difficult to understand, but I liked the way Hector wanted to get revenge. The storyline was dark and sometimes scarey - other parts needed more detail.
— Kyle, Holy Cross College, Strabane
The book was ok but could have been better by being simpler to understand in some parts. I would recommend it to someone intrested in thriller books. Makesure you can handle the gruesome factor!
— Patrick , Other School
A brilliant book, quite gruesome and the launguage is old fashioned with tons of riddles.
— Oisin, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen
It was good but kinda gruesome. it was hard to follow at first but I soon got into it.
— Emma, Methodist College Belfast
A great book. I have not read the other two books by HE Higgins but I will now. The outcome was totally unpredictable if a little gruesome. This book has everything pathos, intrigue, revenge and gruesome characters. Leaves you wanting more.
— Mrs C O'Neill, Other School
I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I have enjoyed others; this was because it was quite confusing and hard to get into. The story changed as the chapters went on and it was hard to keep up with it. Also I think it is directed more towards the attention of boys rather than girls.
— Áine, St Patrick's High School, Keady
Unfortunatly this book wasn't what I had expected, the start is a bit confusing.
— Cahir, St Joseph's College Coalisland
I didn't like this book very much. I would say it's more for boys than girls. I didnt understand it much, it was quite confusing.
— Odhran, St Joseph's College Coalisland
I enjoyed this book very much. Although at the start I was not so sure, when I started reading it was great. The book keeps you interested all the time. A great book! It just goes to show you never judge a book by the cover!
— Eimear, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
A great book from a great writer. Having read The Black Book of Secrets it was good to realise where all of the characters from it had gone. The story kept me fixed to the book and to find out what happens to everyone at the end of it was well worth the read. F.E.Higgins style is one that keeps you reading and wanting to read more without giving too much away.
— David, Royal Belfast Academical Institution
I think this book was ok as it's more for boys than girls. When I started to the read the book I thought it was really boring but it started to get good towards the end.
— Chloe , Lisneal College, L'Derry
Although this book had a slow start once you get into it, it is really entertaining. A fantastic adventure book.
— Adam, Bangor Grammar School
Another entralling book by F E Higgins. I read this within 48 hours. The descriptions of the inhabitants of Urbs Umida and Withypitts Hall and their dastardly deeds will have you transfixed. Hector is a brave and likeable character. Does he get achieve his all comsuming desire for revenge? Read it to find out. I guarantee you will not be disappointed."
— Mrs V H McCord, Royal Belfast Academical Institution
A really exciting read. Not so much a horror story but more a gothic revenge tale which is set perhaps two hundred years ago. There is intrigue, adventure, double crossing and dark mystery. Characters are wonderful -who could fail to be enthralled by Lady Mandible and Baron de Bovrik? A brilliant book.
— Mrs Lindsay, Royal Belfast Academical Institution
great
— tara, St Patrick's High School, Keady
excellent book really enjoyed it!
— Jacqui, St Patrick's High School, Keady
