Great book but it is hard to get a grip of it because it is kind of confusing but i love the book and it has got great vocabulary and has been one of my inspirations with the book i am writing at the moment.
— Adam , Other School
I really liked this book but it took me quite a while to catch on it was being told by 2 people!
— Cara, Aquinas
I thoroughly enjoyed this, although I got a bit bored with it at times. I found the start quite sad but it had an excellent ending. I felt quite sorry for the little girl in the book when her granny died. I would reccommend this book to readers who like to read adventurous books!
— Beth, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
I really enjoyed Flood Child and thought it was a brilliant book. I would highly recommend it to everyone. I liked the way the author put different chapters in Lily and Zeph's point of view. That was one of the many things that I loved about this book. There are so many great things about this book that I just couldn't list them all.It is very exciting and adventurous. I also think that it makes people think more about global warming and more about what might happen in the future if we don't do something about global warming now. I think this book should win as it is amazing.
— Joanna, Sullivan Upper School
I did not really enjoy Flood Child. The concept of it being set in the future but it being staged in olden times confused me. I understand the grown up theme of it showing us what could happen if we do not do something about global warming but it was over-ruled by the childish-ness of the talking jewell and a cat that could understand people and know when storms were coming.
— Katie, Belfast Royal Academy
I loved this book because it was very interesting but it was sad when Lilly's granny died. I liked the front cover with the boat and big Ben. The book makes you think of global warming and the futureof the world.
— Sinead, Holy Cross College, Strabane
This book was a great book on what effect global warming has on people. It was very well written and has a insight on the possible future of our world.
— EOGHAN, Holy Cross College, Strabane
This book really said something to me. It gives us an idea of what global warming can do. Im still not sure were the talking jewel serves it's porpose.
— Katie, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen
this book has a strange perspective on the future but it shows a clear possibility of what could happen. It shows England as a small and water bound country, the last 10 counties of England. the scottish have take over most of main land britain. it really makes you think of what might happen.
— Matthew, Royal Belfast Academical Institution
When I read this book it gave me a mixture of feelings. I didn't know what to expect! As soon as Lilly came back from fishing. I couldn't believe that she walked in and noticed her granny lying dead. It was a sight nobody would want to see! I thought it was just O.K. There were parts they could have made a bit more interesting!
— Nicole, Holy Cross College, Strabane
I thought the book was alright but it isn't one of my favourites
— Aoife, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
I liked this book a lot . I thought it was very adventurous and had much excitement in it. I found it very interesting. My favourite chapter was The Prime Ministers Daughter because there was lots of tense atmoshpere going on in it. It's a very futuristic story but it could happen at any time. I would love to read another book by Emily Diamand.
— Aimee , Holy Cross College, Strabane
This book was amazing. I thought the plot was also amazing and I would recommend this book to anyone. When the prime ministers daughter is kidnapped a girl called Lilly Melkun tries to save her. There are a lot of words that teenagers would say so it is in the correct age. It was amazing! 10/10
— Brendan, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
I thought this was a really good book! It was such a different storyline to usual adventure books. I thought it got better and better towards the end. The two characters were great and I liked the way there were two sides to the story. Not what I was expecting! Loved it.
— Ciara, St Paul's Bessbrook
I quite enjoyed this book towards the end! I feel sorry for the little girl in it! I think the book didn't start off very well but continued to get better towards the end!! I would recommend this book to people more over 13 because its sort of violent and strange; it's set in the future in London. It wasnt really the book I would read before I go to sleep. It wasn't really my sort of adventure!!!!
— Evangeline, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
At the start it was sad, but I really enjoyed it. The story was fantastic! A really good story line and the thought of setting it in the future is an excellent idea. I think this book is different and it shows us what the future could be like. I have to say it's the best book so far out of the six that I have read. This is an absolute must read.
— Maeve, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
i thought this book was all right but it will be better for a boy
— Rachel, St Louise's, Belfast
think it was really sad at the start but I really enjoyed it. The story was brillant! There's a really good story line and the thought of setting it in the future is an excellent idea. I thought each character was amazing in their own way which was good as they are not similar. I think this book is different and it shows us what the future can be like. I have to say it's the best book so far out of the two I have read. Some people assume this book is confusing as they change people in chapters though I don't agree.
— leanne, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen
Bhí an leabhar seo ar feabhas agus sileann me go raibh se ceann de na leabhar is fearr
This book was ecseptionlly well writen and one of the best books in the competitian
— ciarán, Colaiste Feirste
I didn't really like this book. It was good but it wasn't really exciting. The story was good but it didn't interest me!! I didn't like the way they put the story, it was weird and I didn't like the way it started.
— Tina, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
This is a brilliant book and I would reccomend it for all but I would warn you it is confusing at the begining.
— Daniel, Royal Belfast Academical Institution
To be honest I didn't like it. It is was very hard to follow. I do not care what people say it was absolutly NO good
— Chloe, St Joseph's H S, Crossmaglen
Ifound this book very hard to follow ,it had a very complicated plot line .
— Rebecca, Other School
This book was excellent. I would give it 9 out of 10. I got really excited when I read that the prime minister's daughter was kidnapped. I would tell everybody i know to read this book
— Aimee, St Joseph's College Coalisland
Another good adventure story. A little confusing as it is told by two separate narrators in alternate chapters. Perhaps a bit too long but it also leaves a lot of the history unanswered. It was OK, but not my favourite.
— Mr McDonald, Victoria College, Belfast
It was an ok book - it's just that England under water was a bit weird so therefore I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked.
— Conrad, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
I really didn't enjoy this book. I got very bored with it and it was very repetitive near the end. Overall I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
— Eoin, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
I found this book really exciting! I couldn't put it down. I liked this book because I am very concerned about global warming and this book had everthing!!!! I recommed this book to everyone. A must-read!!!!!
— Emer, Holy Cross College, Strabane
I thought flood child was an AMAAAAAAAAZING book full of adventure. I loved it because I like stuff about Ransoms and all that sort of stuff.
— Amy , Sullivan Upper School
I really liked this book! It was funny and very adventurous. I didn't like it at the start because I found it a little bit boring but then I got really into it! I hope there is another one because I didn't find the ending very satisfying. You should definitely read it.
— Elizabeth, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
I didn't really understand this book as it was a bit confusing in places so it was hard to read. But I loved meeting all the characters.
— Eimear, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
I thought this book was really brilliant and I would definately read it again. The story was good and you could follow it. The only thing I didn't like was the 'slang' words, they put me a bit off, but despite that it was a good book.
— Rebecca, Lisneal College, L'Derry
I didn't really like this book, as it was hard to understand and I thought that there was a lot of slang words like 'ent', which made my reading of it run less smoothly than the others. Although I liked the idea of a double narrative, at times I felt that I had to really concentrate on what was happening in the plot because of this. It wasn't one of my favourite books, although I liked the way it is action packed.
— Aine , Sacred Heart College, Omagh
I think it was really sad at the start but I really enjoyed it.
— Aoife, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
Flood Child was a really good book - at times the different narrative perspectives made it a bit confusing but it was still good. I love the way it used adventure and I was really hooked at times because you don't know what's going to happen next. I liked the way the writer used her creativity. Her description of the different settings was brilliant and helped me to really visualise the people and places.
— Clare, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
I found this book to be quite confusing as it is written from two different viewpoints and found myself re-reading passages in order for it to make sense. I also felt the story ended quite abruptly and overall I really didn't enjoy this book.
— Mrs Beattie, St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan
Global warming, floods, horrible governments and the aftermath of wars. This book could be set in the Past, Present or Future. Well written and thought provoking hard to get into but worth while. An enjoyable story.
— Mrs McConnell, St Louise's, Belfast
I think this book was good and I liked it. It had a lot of adventures and it was nearly the same as the other book I have read. I would recommend others to read this book.
— Karolina, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
Bhí Flood Child ina leabhar maith. Bhí sé bronach ar dtús ach ina ndiaidh sin bhí na míonrudaí an-suimiúil. Is leabhar don gach aoisghrúpa é. Mholfainn an leabhar seo.
Flood Child was a great book. Sad at start then it gets more interesting and more detailed. Book for all ages. Would recommend it to anyone.
Great Book
— Rachel , Colaiste Feirste
I didn't really like this book because I'm not into weather and stuff like that. So I found it quite boring.
— Megan, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
This book starts really sad as a family member is murdered by reavers but then it starts to get exciting as London and the south of England is flooded. This story made me recycle more as it tells of global warming happening in our future. This book held my attention and kept me on my feet.
— Paul, Holy Cross College, Strabane
Flood Child made me think of global warming and the different climate change around the world! This book was so good I thought I would never be able put it down it was just so amazing!
Flood child is good for all ages. It was confusing at the start but then you start to get used to it!
It is so detailed that you can imagine all that is happening in your head!
!A GREAT READ!
— Jade , Methodist College Belfast
This book was brilliant. It makes me think about what happened in the future and the weather climate change. The author probably thought about this sort of thing while writing this brilliant book!!!
— Jordan, Methodist College Belfast
This book is amazing! It is very exciting and full of adventures, good for all ages! It let the reader imagine what it would be like if the climate did drastically change! It made me think of global warming and also think twice about pollution! It is so detailed that it makes you feel like you are there watching all the action! It was confusing at the start though because they are told from the perspective of two different characters, but the little illustrations at the beginning of each chapter help you to identify who is talking! I love books like this because you think you know what is going to happen at the end of each chapter but there is a twist! I would highly recommend this book!
— Abi, Methodist College Belfast
I thought this book was a brilliant adventure story.I liked the way that it made you want to keep on reading and I was also sad when it was over because I wanted to keep on reading!
— Rose, Methodist College Belfast
This is a very exciting adventure book which is good for all ages!
— Sean, St Patrick's High School, Keady
I enjoyed this book as it allowed the reader to visualise how life might be if weather climatisation does change drastically. The storyline was believable and shows that in times of unrest and the unknown there are those who still believe in honesty while others have no morals whatsoever.
— Mrs Karen Mayse, Holy Cross College, Strabane
Flood Child was the most exciting book I have ever read. It is a futuristic book on global warming which sure made me think twice about pollution. It is slightly confusing at the beginning as it is told by two different people but it is only for a few chapters and the way the stories met is an amazing piece of literacy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
— Conor, Holy Cross College, Strabane
I think flood child is a really good book so far. I really like the characters, and I like the way there's a twist in every chapter. Most books I read wasn't that exiciting as this! Really good book, recommend it for all ages
— Gianna, St Louise's, Belfast
I didn't like this book one bit. It took me time to get into the book but after the 3rd chapter i didn't understand it. It moved from one character's story to the next very quckly which made me even more confused! Overall i wouldn't recommend this book to my friend.
— Katie, St Joseph's College Coalisland
Flood Child is an exciting adventure book that makes you feel like you are in the thick of the action and you are constantly moved on by the story line. The detail allows you to picture everything like you're sitting on a chair watching the story unwrap right in front of you.
— Ethan, St Paul's Bessbrook
I enjoyed this book. It was very good. The part when the granny dies is sad. The characters were very good.
— Ciara, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
An imaginitive, gripping and a truly exceptional novel. A highly inventive fantasy adventure for children of all ages both male and female. After reading this I would definetly recommend this book to all children. It is a great read from begining to end, it will have you sitting on the edge of your seat and you won't want to put the book down.
— Megan, Sacred Heart College, Omagh
This book was amazing, it was really exciting. I would recommend this book for all ages.
— Ellen, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown
This book portrays itself brilliantly in the blurb. But the story itself is a bit slow to start with.As soon as you got into it it was catchy and fast-paced with a twist in each chapter.
— Adam, St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan
I throught this book was catchy and I enjoyed reading it. There were surpises on every page. A good read for any one who is into adventures. Great Read!
— katie, St Genevieve's
I think Flood Child was really good and iI couldnt put it down.
— Catherine, Hunter House
I thought it was very slow moving and I did not grasp the fact there was a cat until it said so and the language was hard to understand and strangely written i thought it was about a person running away with seacat and that the cat could speak, for half the book
— Caelan, Royal Belfast Academical Institution
This is a really good and interesting book. I think boys and girls would like it.
— Aaron, St Paul's Junior H S, Lurgan
Initially I found this book quite confusing as it jumped from one characters story to the next, however after a few chapters I started to really enjoy it. Although at times the book was quite predictable it became addictive and was extremely hard to put down! This book is full of adventure and relates to both girls and boys. An enjoyable read!
— Margaret, St Patrick's High School, Keady
This book is great so far but it sad that the little girls granny had died. I can't wait to read the rest of the book. I give this book a 5 so far.
— aimee, St Joseph's College Coalisland
I thought flood child was brilliant it was like a two peoples views lilly has her side and zeph had his side I think kids aged 12 -15 would read and understand it I very much enjoyed and looking for more.
— Gareth, De la Salle College, Belfast
This book was amazing, and hard to put down. At some stages of the book you can lose concentration easily as it can be quite confusing the way they switch from character to character, but soon you understand clearly. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend, and I know that they would enjoy this as much as I have.
— Kelsa, Lisneal College, L'Derry
This book can be very confusing because of the way it shifts between 1st person and 3rd person ..I thought it was quite cheesy as well and probably more for younger readers aged 9 or 10 years!
— Aoibheann, St Paul's Bessbrook
This book can be quite confusing for the first few chapters then you get used to it the story is told from two different peoples views. I did enjoy it though it was interesting but a predictable ending. I enjoyed it anyway
— Dearbhail, Victoria College, Belfast
This book takes some getting used to. The chapters are really quite confusing at first, since they are told from the perspective of two different characters. The little illustrations at the beginning of each chapter however help to identify who is actually talking.
Also the language is really strange, the grammar is intentionally poor with tenses all mixed up and this adds to the confusion. However if you can get past this, the story line is exciting and there is a big battle at the end.
The idea behind the book is great though as we really don't know what the world will be like when global warming takes a proper hold.
— Mrs Lindsay, Royal Belfast Academical Institution
