Bodley Head. ISBN: 9780370332284

Wonder is the funny, sweet and incredibly moving story of Auggie Pullman. Born with a terrible facial abnormality, this shy, bright ten-year-old has been home-schooled by his parents for his whole life, in an attempt to protect him from the stares and cruelty of the outside world. Now, for the first time, Auggie is being sent to a real school - and he's dreading it. The thing is, Auggie's just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, underneath it all?

Through the voices of Auggie, his big sister Via, and his new friends Jack and Summer, Wonder follows Auggie's journey through his first year at Beecher Prep. Frank, powerful, warm and often heart-breaking, Wonder is a book you'll read in one sitting, pass on to others, and remember long after the final page.

Hello. And Bye.

Nedaillelry, Dominican College, Portstewart  10 out of 10

I think that Wonder is a great book the way it goes round everyones story and points of view. I also think that it can be a bit better at the start but when read about the first 50 pages it gets brilliant.
It goes through a story of a boy and his friends and family, there are make ups break ups and most impotantly how a boy with a facial disorder goes through his first year at school.

James, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  9 out of 10

I thought this book was awesome i really enjoyed the way even when his face was messed up he still was brave.

josh,  8 out of 10

I thought this book was extremely outstanding, I loved the little additions in this book. Like the different view points of important people in his life and the way it made you use your imagination of what he looked like instead of details on his appearance. Out of what I read so far, I hope Wonder wins.

Euna, Lisneal College  10 out of 10

this is possibly the most outstanding book i have ever read it keeps you on the edge of your seat and i would encourage the author to write more book in this style

max, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  10 out of 10

Wonder was an amazing book and although it is a sad, emotional book it is up there with one of the best books I have ever read.

Wonder will have you on the verge of tears on minute and laughing the next, the story line is played out brilliantly and I fell in love with the characters INSTANTLY! The best part about this book is that it is for all ages whether it be a seven year old or a Seventy year old! Wonder is a book phenomenon

I thought this book was extremely moving and gave a very good insight to what goes on behind the exterior and looks. I have also gained a lot of knowledge and respect for people who suffer from face disfigurements.
Thank you :)

Nadeshda Monika, Hunter House  10 out of 10

The book wonder was an amazing story which I think would have the ability to give confidence to kid who have none.
It is really well set out and is really easy to understand.
The good things about it are that there are too many good things about it
The bad thing is that it wasn't longer.
I recommend this book to everyone to read it and I guarantee that you will enjoy it.

Derren, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  10 out of 10

I loved this book because it is really good the way it is written from different points of view. I would recommend it to anyone

Odhran , Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

I read Wonder in a few days even though it was quite long. When I started to read it I couldn't put it down. My favourite charcters were August and Summer, I like the way everybody has a few chapters in the book. This is one of the best books I have ever read because the way everyone told the story and the way it was Augusts first time at school. I would definately recomend it to anyone else.

Alicia, Assumption Grammar School  10 out of 10

Overall I really liked Wonder. This is the first book I have read this year on the Northern Ireland Book Awards. It is very different to other books.
I like the way that the author shows you the views of the different people because it shows you how different other people's minds are. The bit I disliked the most was when their dog Daisy died. I was really close to skipping it then but at least they got a new dog called Bear.
This is probably one of the best books I have ever read and I would recommend it to people who like comedy..

Ben, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  10 out of 10

I thought that this book was amazing I couldn't put it down, I thought that this book was good because it made you think of how hard it can be to make true friends, when I looked at the front cover of the book I didn't know what to make of it, but it turned out to be a brilliant story. I thought it was very interesting how the book showed more than just the first person's point of view. I would highly recommend this book to you.

Caelainn, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

I give this book a ten because I loved the story line. I know how hard it is to go into a new school and not know anyone.Someone in Augusts position would find it a lot harder.

shania, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

Avery good book about a small boy with a 'deformed' face. He shows courage, bravery and friendship in mIddle school. I couldnt put it down for the last three days! I would recomend this book.

Jamie, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  9 out of 10

I couldn't put it down for the last two days. I felt real sympathy for August.

Rachael, Wellington College  10 out of 10

What a great book. Funny, sad, enlightening. All the elements for a good story. Autumn is wonderfully endearing and the relationship he has with his parents, especially his dad is heartwarming. The whole story was so real - how a young boy struggles with being physically different from everybody else. How people treat him and how he sees the world. Lovely, feel good book. Winner!

McClements, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

i absolutely loved this book if i had to rate it out of 100 i would give it an 110 and if i had to pick a favorite book out of these id pick tis one.

Dearbhla, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

I thought that this book was great and deserved a ten out of ten. I felt that the subject of the book was different than most others and really gripped the reader. Also the fact that it tells the story from the viewpoints of different characters made this a really good read. one of the best in my opinion.

Daniel, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  10 out of 10

I gave this book a eight out of ten becuase its got a mixture of things in it. It has got exitement when August is being chased through the forest with his friends. It has got everyday stuff such bullying and how he makes new friends throughout the story. It also has you feeling sorry for August and his condition. it also has sad points such as when Augusts dog dies.

Patrick, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  8 out of 10

I REALLY like this book because no other author would have though of a book about a boy who is weird looking and no one likes him then in the end everyone likes him and sticks up for him. :-)

nathan, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  10 out of 10

I realy enjoyed reading this book. Its about a boy called August who goes to school for the first time and how he deals with bullying and makes new friends. I would recommend this book to people of all ages as even though it wasn't the type of book I'd usually go for, I still loved it and it brought me to tears.;)

Zuzanna, Belfast Royal Academy  9 out of 10

i thought this book was amazing .August is a 10 year old boy with a deformed face and this book tells about him going to school for the first time .i would recomened this book to enyone who likes to read .READ THIS BOOK !!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Niamh, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  10 out of 10

An emotional roller-coaster jam packed with powerful description and the page turning trills and spills of everyday life. Auggie faces challenges and barriers not many other child have to overcome but he troops on and forges a path in the face of indifference and adversity. The varied views of Auggie from different characters shed light from all angles instead of just a first person narrative. I found this device kept the book fresh and interesting to the very last sentence.

Archie, Bangor Grammar School  9 out of 10

Wonder is one of the best books I've read in a long time. It's the type of book that describes other people’s lives. I would recommend it to everyone - young and old. It will leave you thinking about other people’s lives and situations that happen to them. It's interesting but has some sad moments.

Paulina, St Patrick's High School, Keady  9 out of 10

I thought Wonder was an brillant book and I liked the fact that it was told from different members of August's life. I liked the ending because it showed that August had made progress with his confidence since he started school and he had made lots of friends. I thought this was a brilliant book and would recomed it to anyone one who is looking for a good read.

Jack, Lisneal College  9 out of 10

I thought this book contained everything, from bullying and sadness to making new friends and happiness. This would be a book that I would recommend to all ages, from teenager to adult. It helps children see what prejudice exists in the world, and as the book states 'To not judge a boy by his face!'

Aine, Assumption Grammar School  10 out of 10

This book was great. I had heard that it was brilliant and enjoyable so I decided to take my time and I loved. It was really good. I wonder if RJ Palacio is going to write another one as this one was so good. I thought it was so nice that he had some very good friends in the end, protecting and staying by his side. When I was reading I actually felt what August felt. When his dog Daisy died, it made me cry because Daisy was a big part of his life. He was very brave to start 5th grade and ending up having a sucessful year and even getting a prize. I would recommend this book to everyone. It was terrific and that is why I'm giving it 10/10.

Neamh, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

Anthony, Sacred Heart College, Omagh  8 out of 10

such a good book as he stands up to everyone even though they think he is a freak and gives quite a lot of view points on the whole story i think that a sequel would be hard to write but one should definitely be written

Brandon,  10 out of 10

Wonder is an amazing book, I really would recommend it! The author narrates the story wonderfully from different viewpoints and this makes the book a lot more interesting. This book is very touching and emotional and keeps you reading right to the very end. Brilliant

Anna, Assumption Grammar School  10 out of 10

I loved Wonder. The moment I started reading it I knew that I couldn't stop. I read it in one day. I felt like I could connect to the book as I have a cousin who is disabled. It was a gripping book ,full of ups and downs. Truly terrific book I will definitely read again.

Hana, Assumption Grammar School  10 out of 10

This book was an amazing read . It's really inspiring and fasinating. It was a bit sad in some chapters, but I loved the way it was narrated by not just Auggie, but his friends and family.

This book is funny, heartwarming, sad and one of the best books ever! I think everyone will enjoy it if they give it a try!

Katie, Culleybackey College  10 out of 10

This is my favourite book of all time ever! It is so sad in so many ways but I love how Auggie just shrugs all the looks and whispers off. Wonder is a wonderful book and I would recommend it to people who don’t mind a tear jerker. Auggie is someone I would love to meet. I could not put it down

Katie , St Patrick's High School, Keady  10 out of 10

Where do I start. . . . .??? This book was AMAZING!!!!! The best book I've ever read!! I love the way the chapters were done in different points of view from each character! I really liked Wonder and I could not leave it down as it is a great book. It is a very different story to the rest of the book I have read. It makes you realise that people should be treated the same, no matter what they look like.

Maia, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  9 out of 10

This book was brilliant and I couldn't put it down. I love R J Palacio's writing style. The book was very sad at the start, but at the end it was happy. It is easy to empathize with August and get into his character

Molly,  10 out of 10

This is really good book. It is written well, and allows the reader to feel a strong empathy for August (the main character).
It also has a strong story line that made me want to read on everyday, without making it a chore.
In my opinion, this book should win the Northern Ireland Book Award, and if you read it you'll know exactly why!

Sarah , Sullivan Upper School  9 out of 10

This book was amazing. It was sad and funny at the same time. It was very a very sad book but turns into a happy one when everything turns out alright for him !!! :)

Caitlin , Glenlola Collegiate School  9 out of 10

I have to admit that this isn't the type of book I would normally go for, but I LOVED IT! I felt I could relate to Auggie, the parents and Via!
It was really good as it just tells you YOU SHOULD NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER (you should never judge a boy by his face)

Eimear, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

This book was amazing and really sad but I still enjoyed it. The book moved me so much that I actually cried when I was reading it. I could picture August in my mind and what he was going through. I read the book twice because it was AMAZING!!!!!! One of the most enjoyable that I have read to date.

clara , Assumption Grammar School  10 out of 10

I really enjoyed reading this book, I found it very interesting, it was one of the best books I have ever read.
I liked the way it was split into eight different parts so it can show what other people think of August and what he is thinking. I could picture every part of the story in my head and once I started reading it I couldn't put it down.AMAZING!

Alice , Assumption Grammar School  9 out of 10

Well...I thought this book was fantastic - the minute I started reading it I couldn't put it down!!!!! I'll just warn you that this book was very emotional and it nearly made me cry.........It just goes to show that you should never judge a book by the cover because I know that Wonder probably wouldn't be a book that I would pick off the shelf, but i'm so glad that I did read it,because I really enjoyed it. :)

An amazing book!
A heartfelt story that really takes you on a journey into the life of Auggie. With twists and surprises this book is definitely one to read.
This book is both sad and funny at the same time. It really makes you think more about how some people can't accept people who are different.
You need to put this book on your Christmas list.

I thought this book has a great meaning I couldn't put it down! Totally captivating !Awesome

Sarah, Glenlola Collegiate School  10 out of 10

A book I hardly liked. I felt the plot had been recycled from another book and the names changed. I cant give a real opinion as I stopped halfway through because I got bored. Also it isn't my cup of tea.

Lee, Belfast Royal Academy  3 out of 10

I really enjoyed this book, I loved the meaning in it. I would read it again, and if there were a sequel, I would read it too! :D

Nicole,  10 out of 10

I enjoyed reading this book but i would not go out of my way to read it again

Evan, Bangor Grammar School  6 out of 10

Wonder is absolutely WONDERFUL. I really liked how the author managed to portray what it is like to be a person with a facial abnormailty. I liked the way the chapters were arranged giving a variety of view points and also using Auggie as the narrator made the book seem very personal. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and its message: bullying is wrong.

Rachael , Assumption Grammar School  10 out of 10

This book is about a young boy who has had 27 operations before he was 4 years old and because of this he was home schooled. I think this would be a great book for someone who picks on others with problems. To show the effect of bullying.

LOVE THIS BOOK MUST READ !!!!!!!!

jordan, Lisneal College  10 out of 10

I love this book to bits espescially because of its hidden meaning - BULLYING IS WRONG!

Luke , Aquinas Grammar School  10 out of 10

This is one of the best books I have ever read. I loved all the characters. All I have to say is that everyone should read this book. It brings across a message of that even if someone is different to the rest of your friends you should always be their friend. Loved this Book.

Alanna, Glenlola Collegiate School  10 out of 10

really good book and very interesting but quite sad. I liked the way it was split up into different parts to show each characters point of view. Overall a good story with a happy ending.

rebecca, Glenlola Collegiate School  9 out of 10

Wonder is a great book which i really enjoyed. I loved the way the author split the book into different sections as you got to here what other characters were thinking and mainly how August was feeling. Wonder is book about a boy called August Pullman who was born with a facial abnormality. His mum and dad have persuaded him to go to school even though he really doesnt want to, but in the end its worth it.

James, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  9 out of 10

my views on wonder are that it is a vey good book put into many different perspectives. i vey much liked the Star Wars references and the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid reference and the Uglydoll reference. this book has to be the very best book i've ever read!!!! i've read a lot of books!!!!!!!!!

david, Bangor Grammar School  10 out of 10

Amazing and true. Definately a good read

Fergus, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  10 out of 10

This book is very well written because it’s coming from different people’s point of view. I found this book impossible to put down, it was so captivating and it was so heart warming and loving. I felt really sorry for August but the end of the book was so happy and full of joy. I have got to say that this was one of the best books I have ever read. I am definitely giving this book a rating of 10. Marks out of ten: 10

Lauren, St Patrick's High School, Keady  10 out of 10

This book was really, really good!!! As I read it, a whole lot of emotions flushed through me - sadness, humour and happiness!! I think this one will be my favourite!

Ellie, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

Aw, this is SUCH a heart-warming story about poor August and all of his tauntings and teasings because he was born with slightly deranged features. It really teaches us not to judge a person by what he or she looks like or how quiet the are; there's usually a really nice person underneath!

Sonya , Sacred Heart College, Omagh  9 out of 10

What can I say?... This book is amazing!! I was completely blown away by it and inspired. I was able to feel exactly what Auggie was feeling at different times. I understood his pain and hurt at being laughed at, especially when it's your first time EVER starting school and you have everyone laughing at you. I would definitely like to read this book again, and I will recommend for other people to read this book. It's so inspirational and amazing that it will make you want to cry!

Marlene, Holy Trinity College, Cookstown  10 out of 10

I love dthis book, it really spoke to me. I never would have thought of reading a book like this because the front cover is really unusual but I'm a bookworm so I actually love all books really!!!!!!!!

Erin, Sullivan Upper School  9 out of 10

Wonder is really good. I've already read Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime and I wanted to read Wonder because it looked interesting. I like the way R.J.Palacio does the different views of all the people.

Rebecca, Wellington College  10 out of 10

I think that R.J. Palacio has written one fantastic novel I also think that she has written loving story because I know that she based it on a holiday that she was on and where she was staying there was a deformed boy and everybody was staring at him and she felt sorry for him so she wrote a book based on him. This was truly a fantastic read and I hope that she will make many more books like this and as Connor from Bangor Grammer said this book has also intrigued me to read more books like this as I am now reading The Last Summer of the Death Warriors. I would like to finsh by summing this book up on one word and that word is Powerful!!!

Roddy, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  10 out of 10

I heard about this book from a friend who recommended it to me, and I meant to get it out of the library but forgot, until I saw it on the NI Book Awards. I could see why my friend said to me about it, because it was one of the best books I read this year. Brilliantly written and it really makes you empathise with the characters, especially August. 10.

Kai, Royal Belfast Academical Inst  10 out of 10

I dont usually read these sort of books, but i couldnt put this book down and this book has inspired me to start reading more of these type of books and i have already started to read The Curious Incident of the dog in the nightime now.
